What is MRR?
MRR is the estimated monthly recurring revenue from active recurring contracts, normalized to one month. For an agency, the indicator helps to see the predictable part of the contracted monthly fees, as long as the values, effective dates and inclusion criteria are recorded consistently. It does not automatically equate to cash received or profit.

Why follow MRR in agency management?
Monthly paid media management contracts and other ongoing services often form a revenue base that repeats as long as customers remain active. Observing this basis helps the manager to discuss service capacity and future commitments, without relying solely on one-off sales. The analysis must be accompanied by information on cancellations, scope changes and payments.
The comparison between months makes more sense when the agency documents which contracts are included in the indicator and the date on which each change becomes effective. A one-time charge for the initial creation of a campaign requires separate treatment if the chosen definition only considers recurring values.
How can you calculate monthly recurring revenue?
Add the recurring monthly values of active contracts at the same time. For example, three customers with monthly fees of BRL 2,000, BRL 1,500 and BRL 1,000 represent an MRR of BRL 4,500. An annual contract paid in advance needs to be normalized by the service period: BRL 12,000 for twelve months is equivalent to BRL 1,000 monthly, if the entire amount is recurring.
Take note of what was included and review discounts, renewals and variable services. The contracted revenue may differ from the accounting revenue and receipts for the month. Reconciling these views requires observing the contract and regime adopted by the agency.
What errors change the indicator reading?
Including the one-time implementation fee as if it were monthly artificially increases the base. Another precaution is not to keep a canceled contract in the sum after the date set for its termination. Counting proposals not yet accepted also mixes expected revenue with existing commitments.
A growing MRR, in isolation, does not prove an increase in margin or customer satisfaction. Compare the evolution with delivery costs, defaults and changes in the portfolio. If a monthly fee goes up because the scope has increased, also consider the additional workload.
How does Zenit OS support the analysis of this revenue?
The operation offers customer monitoring and the product brings together financial tools whose availability varies depending on plan, access and configuration. This information can support checking the portfolio and contractual values; the indicator formula and criteria must be defined and reviewed by the agency itself.
Part of the financial tools is being tested and needs to be confirmed before hiring. Schedule a demonstration to discuss the records necessary for your analysis and verify access by those responsible for sales, operational and financial matters.
Frequently asked questions
Is MRR the same as profit?
Profit considers income and expenses according to its own criteria. MRR describes a recurring monthly basis and does not discount costs.
Is a one-off sale included in the calculation?
The single rate should be excluded when the adopted definition only includes values that are repeated.
Can annual contract be considered?
It can be normalized to the monthly equivalent, as long as the agency documents the rule and validity.
Does the indicator prove receipt?
This depends on the context: a contracted amount may be pending payment and needs to be reconciled with financial information.
